CAA is currently interviewing for an individual who has experience in municipal engineering to serve as an Assistant City Engineer to assist with several of our municipal clients in San Bernardino County, California.
DESCRIPTION
The respective individual will assist in the planning and directing of professional civil engineering activities associated with the investigation, design, maintenance, construction or accomplishment of public works projects
SKILLS: Requires skill in analyzing and interpreting data, conditions, policy and procedures in order to arrive at logical conclusions or recommendations; interpreting and applying local city, state, and federal policies, laws and regulations; reviewing development projects and setting appropriate requirements and conditions; building effective teams and providing excellent customer service; communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing, and; establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships with city engineers, city department heads, city councils, boards and committees, governmental and private agencies, and the general public.
KNOWLEDGE: Principals and practices of civil engineering, contract administration, project management, strategic planning and municipal infrastructure.
IMPACT: Requires responsibility for achieving short and long-term municipal objectives by assessing municipal service needs and making preliminary recommendations for the development of alternative short-term and long-term program policies or procedures
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position.

Assists in the oversight of designs and development of construction plans, specifications and bid documents for projects including but not limited to streets and sidewalks, water and wastewater lines and storm drainage.

Researches and proposes capital improvement projects and regulatory compliance programs; maintains a working knowledge of the local agency’s regulatory compliance and enforcement obligations.

Provides and presents civil engineering advice and assistance to the City Engineer, and other municipal officials, and confers with Federal, State and Town officials to propose solutions and resolve engineering conflicts.

Attends and participates in City Council meetings, construction meetings and other Board and Committee meetings as needed.

Represents City government in dealing with other governmental jurisdictions, private firms, and the general public on engineering matters, as may be directed.

Assists in the review of proposed subdivision/development and infrastructure plans, specifications and construction estimates as they relate to compliance with local agency regulations and specifications.

Answers inquiries from and provides information to the public as related to engineering items.

Responsible for preparing and delivering staff reports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree with major course work in civil engineering from a recognized college or university.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum two years of progressively responsible experience in the field of municipal engineering including design, project management, and supervision. Additional years of related work experience may not be substituted for the formal education required.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Possession of an Engineer-In-Training License and California Drivers License. A Professional Civil Engineer’s license in the State of California is desired but not required. However, if selected, the individual will be required to apply for Professional Civil Engineering’s Test when the minimum qualifications are met. Salary Range: $38.00-$56.00.
